The Mental Edge
Preparation

A pre-market routine you will actually run every day

A routine that takes thirty minutes gets abandoned in a week. The point is not preparation — it is making three decisions while you are still calm enough to mean them.

Is this you?

  • —Your first twenty minutes cost you the most money.
  • —What you do before the bell changes daily.
  • —You decide your maximum loss after you are already down.
  • —You are still scrolling news when the market opens.

Two or more of those and this is the state costing you the most, not the strategy.

What it actually costs

Without a fixed routine, every session starts with your rules undefined, which means they get defined later by whatever state you happen to be in.

The protocol: The Five-Minute Set

Trigger — Every session, before your first chart.

  1. 1.Rate your sleep and your load 1 to 5. Anything at 4 or 5 halves your size today — write the halved number.
  2. 2.Write today's ticket count.
  3. 3.Write today's stop-for-the-day in currency, not percent.

How long — Five minutes.

Do this in your next session

Five minutes before the open, write three lines: maximum loss for the day, the one setup you will take, and the hour you stop. Read them back once without changing them.

Not sure this is your state?

The quiz takes two minutes, needs no sign-up, and names your top three protocols out of the fourteen.
