Fear of pulling the trigger on valid setups
Hesitation rarely comes from doubt about the setup. It comes from the moment of irreversibility — the click. If you practise the click on small size until it is boring, the fear loses its grip long before your conviction improves.
The protocol: Kettle Drill
Trigger — Your setup appears and you notice yourself waiting for one more candle.
- 1.Count down out loud: three, two, one.
- 2.On "one", place the order at minimum size — the smallest your platform allows.
- 3.Set the stop immediately, before you look at price again.
- 4.Say: "The trade is on. My job now is to follow the plan, not the outcome."
- 5.Log one line: setup name, time from signal to click in seconds.
- How long —
- Under ten seconds per entry; run it for two weeks of sessions.
- You know it worked when —
- Your signal-to-click time drops under five seconds and you stop skipping setups you later regret.
- If it doesn't work —
- If you still cannot click at minimum size, the problem is the setup, not you. Write the setup's exact entry rule in one sentence. If you cannot, you were never hesitating — you had no plan.
Why minimum size matters
At minimum size the outcome stops mattering enough to freeze you, which lets you practise the motor sequence hundreds of times. You are not training conviction. You are training the hand.
The one-more-candle tell
Waiting for confirmation that your plan does not require is the clearest signal of hesitation. Confirmation you defined in advance is a rule. Confirmation you invent in the moment is fear wearing analysis as a costume.
Scaling back up
Add size only after five consecutive sessions with a sub-five-second click time. Increase by 25 percent, then hold for another five sessions. If hesitation returns, drop back one step immediately.

Questions traders ask
Is hesitation ever useful?
Yes, when your plan is unclear. Hesitation on a setup you cannot describe in one sentence is good information. Hesitation on a written, tested setup is a trained fear response.
How long before the drill works?
Most traders see their click time drop inside two weeks of daily reps. The fear does not disappear — the sequence just runs faster than the fear can interrupt it.
