Afraid to pull the trigger? Trade the setup at a size you cannot feel
If you watch your setup work without you in it, the answer is not more conviction. It is a smaller size and a repetition count.
Why conviction talk makes it worse
Telling yourself to be confident raises the stakes of the click. The click is not hard because you doubt the setup — it is hard because the size is above your current emotional capacity, so your body treats a valid entry as a threat and buys you relief by waiting. Waiting works: the discomfort goes away every single time. That is why the habit is so strong.
The rehearsal ladder
Trigger: your setup prints and you have not clicked within your defined entry window. Steps: take it immediately at the smallest size your platform allows — a size where the loss is genuinely irrelevant — and write one line on whether the entry matched the plan. Do that for ten setups. Success test: ten entries taken inside the window, regardless of outcome. Then go up one rung and repeat the ten.
When you skip an entry anyway
Skipping one is data, not failure. Write the timestamp and what you were doing in the five minutes before it. Most skipped entries sit right after a loss or right after a long quiet stretch — which means the fix is a state protocol before the open, not more staring at the chart.
Takeaway — Reps at a size you cannot feel build the click; size you can feel builds the hesitation.
